For an asphalt pump with a temperature of 190 and a flow rate of over 20 tons, how long can the mechanical seal still be used?
It tests the heat resistance of the material used in your mechanical seal; it can be used continuously until it completely fails.
Even the new ones don’t last long; our solution is to let it leak a little, and once the liquid has cooled and solidified, we clean it regularly. Spray some water on that piece of metal at the base; this way, the asphalt that sticks to it won’t adhere to the equipment, making it easier to clean.
It’s strange – why isn’t some cooling water being supplied?
This pump: seal leakage has nothing to do with the cooling water, and cooling water cannot be supplied. The key to operation is to ensure that the cooling at the mechanical seal area does not become excessive. Due to the exposure of the mechanical seal area, the temperature of the asphalt at that location drops, its viscosity increases and its fluidity declines, which affects the performance of the mechanical seal and ultimately leads to leakage; it is therefore necessary to minimize the temperature drop at the mechanical seal area as much as possible. It is feasible to use seal oil for the pump at the bottom of the tower, but using it on the transfer pump would be too wasteful.

How can a mechanical seal be cooled with coolant? It should be insulated with steam, right?
