The LY type submersible pump was installed in an oil waste tank containing harmful gases at a pressure of 0.05 MPa. Harmful gases would constantly leak from the pump shaft and the floor. Later, a packing seal was added at the junction of the pump shaft and the floor to prevent leaks; tightening the packing resolved the issue. However, due to smoking caused by dry friction of the packing, it was loosened again, and harmful gases started leaking once more. Someone who has encountered the same issue as us, or an expert, could please offer some guidance to resolve this security problem
1 Replace the filler with a skeleton oil seal, and apply more butter to the skeleton oil seal for lubrication! 2. Replace the flushable design with a mechanical seal. 3. Add covers to the two holes on the bearing housing, and fit O-rings over those covers! Hope this helps!
It is still recommended to modify the mechanical seal as much as possible, adding a cooling auxiliary system for self-flushing; if conditions permit, models 52 and 53 can also be used. This approach ensures both good sealing performance and stable, safe operation.
If the gas is prone to flashing, a dry gas seal is the best choice
Replace the mechanical seal; 1. It’s difficult to make changes on-site, which is troublesome. 2. The costs are high; they become even higher if a system is added! 3. Installing additional flushing pipelines requires a large amount of work! It’s better to cover it with a lid; the repair team handled this task with ease. No declaration is required, nor are any special accessories needed to purchase! On-site repairs are troublesome not to mention that sometimes the repair personnel don’t have final say; the simpler, the better.
Connect the pump to the pump shaft and lower it further, adapting the tank-type installation method used for the lubricating oil pumps on the main oil tank of power plant turbines; Or install a siphon tank. It involves modifying the pump into a centrifugal oil pump. The modification work for the above two is quite substantial. A simple approach is to avoid modifying the pump; instead, make an opening in the oil tank, connect a pipe, install an exhaust fan for fumes, and connect another pipe at the outlet to direct the oil fumes to a safe location, thereby keeping the oil tank operating under slight negative pressure.
Too large of changes aren’t good; whatever type of seal is used, it must have oil lubrication and cooling.
You use graphite filler, which provides its own lubrication
