Problems with the auxiliary systems: (1) Complex operating conditions, but no auxiliary facilities such as flushing systems; (2) Clogged flushing pipes; (3) Scaling in the cooling pipes. 2. Problems with the mechanical seal itself: (1) Improper installation or uneven alignment; (2) Excessively high load coefficient or unreasonable design of the end-face pressure; (3) Inappropriate selection of material; (4) Uneven sealing surfaces; (5) Sealing surfaces that are either too wide or too narrow. 3. Issues related to the medium and operating conditions: (1) High corrosiveness of the medium; (2) Presence of solid particles in the medium; (3) Equipment being under vacuum; (4) Crystallization on the sealing surfaces; (5) Excessively high viscosity of the medium. 4. Pump problems: (1) Poor machining accuracy of the shaft, shaft misalignment, runout, and excessive installation clearance; (2) Excessive vibration when the pump is in operation; (3) Defective gland gaskets; (4) Uneven sealing box; (5) The mechanical seal is not installed with the required degree of compression.
At our factory, the seal of the crude oil pump used in coking failed; the high temperature caused an ignition. Fortunately, it was detected in time and the fire was extinguished
