Is a pump with a flow rate of 300 cubic meters per hour and a head of 40 meters, along with valves of 150 mm diameter at the inlet and outlet, sufficient?
The diameter of the inlet pipe is too small, which prevents the pump from operating smoothly. Generally, the inlet flow velocity of centrifugal pumps does not exceed 2 m/s; based on a flow velocity of 2 m/s, a DN250 pipeline should be used for the inlet pipe.
I also figured that 250 would be sufficient, but the inlet and outlet flanges of the pump are both 150 – I don’t understand this. Is it possible to expand the sections before and after the pump to 250? Would that work?
The pump inlet pipe can be a DN250 pipe; a reducer at the inlet is sufficient. Using a DN250 pipe for the outlet is a bit too large.
To use this pump at maximum capacity, the outlet diameter should be smaller than the inlet diameter, right? That’s because the water flow speed increases after the pump boosts the pressure, isn’t that correct?

DN150 is not sufficient; the flow rate of water is generally 1.5 to 3 m/s. Assuming a flow rate of 3 m/s, the pipe diameter required is 188 mm. If DN200 is used, the flow rate will be 2.65 m/s. At least DN200 should be chosen
Since the pump’s inlet and outlet at 150 have been fixed, it’s better to make the inlet and outlet pipelines a bit larger; generally, the inlet should be one size larger than the outlet
