That is a solenoid valve; its purpose is to open the valve when the pump is stopped, allowing the inlet to be connected to the outside environment. This breaks the vacuum in the pump’s inlet pipeline, preventing water from being drawn back into the pump due to siphoning effects. As a result, the pump would need to be refilled each time it is started again. By installing this solenoid valve, there is no need to refill the pump
