During the maintenance of the motors, it was found that the wiring boxes of the outdoor motors were not properly sealed and there were signs of water intrusion. Please discuss whether it is necessary to install rain covers; whether any petrochemical plants have already installed such covers on a large scale; and whether installing rain covers would violate any standards, specifications, or regulations
We are a chemical manufacturing company, and all outdoor motors have been fitted with rain covers, with very good results.
The motors in our facility don’t have rain covers, but they are all explosion-proof; I’ve heard of no cases of water getting inside them.

No. Follow the regulations of your industry; Sinopec has quite strict unified management requirements.

When placing an order, you can ask the supplier to include a rain cover for the motor; actually, it can also be added later – for vertical pumps, simply replace the motor cover.
