A grade-9 multi-stage pump is used on-site, with Q=340 m3/h and H=350 m. The pump operates smoothly, but the packing on the non-drive side remains at high temperature and no water comes out. It has been disassembled several times, the packing has been replaced, and it has been confirmed that the water seal ring is aligned with the cooling water inlet; moreover, the cooling water pipe is not blocked and there is water available. I’m seeking advice from experts – what other reasons could cause this phenomenon? Could an excessive or insufficient gap between the balance sleeve and the balance disc lead to this issue?
The packing can be loosened after it is turned on; once cooling water starts to flow out, it should be tightened by two turns. Make it into a drip. I’m not sure if what I’m saying is correct; it seems that this is indeed the way it’s done when adjusting the packing in a circulating water pump. Let the moderator answer it@Foam_ZPTK

It has been confirmed that the cooling water inlet is aligned with the position of the water seal ring, and it has also been checked that there are no blockages in the cooling water pipes and that water is flowing through them. Now, the cause of the problem remains unknown.:(
The packing can be loosely filled before starting; once the pump begins to operate, the pressure in the packing box is not high. Normally, after the pump has been running steadily for 30 minutes, the packing gland is tightened to the allowable level; it is essential to maintain a minimum leakage rate of 120 drops per minute. Since 15 drops equal 1 ml, this means a minimum leakage rate of 8 ml per minute. The packing seal must not be operated dry.
