In what situations are vertical pumps generally used, and what are their limitations? It occupies little space and has a simple structure; why are horizontal pumps chosen for most processes?
Vertical pipe pump occupies less space, while horizontal pumps are easier to maintain.
Vertical multi-stage pumps are mainly used for flammable and explosive substances such as liquid hydrocarbons; the pump body is often placed underground, and such pumps are known as barrel-pouch pumps! In fact, the pipeline layout for vertical pumps is not much different from that of horizontal pumps! But sufficient space must be left above the vertical pump for maintenance and lifting purposes!
As the name suggests, a pipeline pump functions like a valve fitting, facilitating pipe routing without altering the direction of the pipes. Unlike horizontal pumps (which have suction at one end and discharge at the other; models BB2 and BB5 both discharge from the top, thereby changing the pipe direction), it thus saves space and features a more compact design. For the usage limitations of pipeline pumps, refer to SH3139: 1. The maximum operating temperature should be less than 150 degrees Celsius; 2. The linear velocity at the tip of the impeller should be less than 50 m/s
Vertical pumps are commonly used in applications where backflow is not possible, such as in underground tanks. Alternatively, if there is no available space on site to create a foundation for a horizontal centrifugal pump, a vertical pump has to be used, mounted on the tank. When ordinary horizontal pumps (that are not self-priming pumps) have very poor self-priming capabilities and are unable to draw fluid from tanks below, vertical pumps are chosen instead. Horizontal centrifugal pumps are usually chosen, mainly because they are simple and easy to repair and maintain. Vertical pumps are difficult to maintain, as they need to be lifted up every time they are repaired.
Don’t horizontal pumps need to be lifted? Can it be moved by hand?

For example, suppose in all cases the flow rate is insufficient; in such cases, the pump parameters are the same: 30 cubic feet, 30 square meters, and a motor power of 18.5 kW. Horizontal pumps can be easily pumped directly to remove and inspect the impeller and its locking mechanism, without the need for lifting. However, the vertical pump still must be lifted out of the tank in order to inspect components such as the impeller. The maintenance here is merely relatively convenient.

Thank you all for your responses. However, the OH3-OH5 pump model I’m asking about is not a VS pump model. I’m curious as to why vertical pipeline pumps are not used in most designs these days; what are their disadvantages compared to horizontal pumps?
