The company uses a decolorizing solution that contains activated carbon, and single-stage, single-suction vertical centrifugal pumps are employed for this purpose. Due to the issues associated with activated carbon, the machine seals tend to get damaged frequently. Are there any other types of pumps that could be used as alternatives?
Activated carbon particles wear out the seal friction pairs; a double-faced type with flushing options is available. There should be no issues with the pump material – it’s mainly the seal that poses a problem, and horizontal pumps are preferable.

A mechanical seal with double faces can be used; for horizontal centrifugal pumps, the need for a sealing ring can be eliminated, and back blades can be employed to balance the axial forces, so there should be no problem
Depending on the specific operating conditions, an axially sealed-free pump can be tried

To address the issue of frequent damage to mechanical seals, it is necessary to wash the pump body with a solvent or clean water after each filling operation; blowing the pump body with gas should not be used. There’s nothing else we can do; we’ve tried many different sealing methods and taken many detours, but we still couldn’t solve the problem. PS: Volumetric pumps must not be used for materials containing solid particles (diaphragm pumps were mentioned by someone above).
A diaphragm pump can be used to transport granular materials, with a maximum particle size of 9 MM
