This marks the first time that our country has successfully developed and exported high-end shielded pumps to Europe. The shielded pump developed by Toho Electric this time is a type of pump with a static seal, and it boasts 100% independent intellectual property rights. The shielded motor associated with it can have a maximum power of 450 kilowatts. It features an integrated design of pump and motor, and compared to traditional mechanical seal devices, it offers advantages such as zero leakage, long service life, and high reliability. During the research and development process, Dongfang Electric applied design concepts such as \"single-turn multi-strand offset strip wire rods\" and \"single set of windings with dual outputs\" to shielded motors for the first time, filling the technical gaps in this field in China. The shielded pump is a key component that drives the flow of fluids in a system; it is primarily used in environments with high temperatures and pressures, as well as in situations involving flammable, explosive, toxic, or harmful substances. It is widely applied in industries such as petrochemicals, photovoltaics, and thermoelectric power generation. Dongfang Electric: Shielded pumps used for the first time in photothermal applications Finance World 2025-02-18 15:12 According to Dongfang Electric, the company has recently won a contract to supply start-up circulation pumps for the steam generation system in a photothermal project in Bortala Prefecture, along with related equipment; this marks the first time that shielded pump products have been utilized in photothermal applications. The project is located in Dallet Town, Bole City, Xinjiang, and is planned to include 100 megawatts of heat-storage solar thermal capacity and 900 megawatts of photovoltaic capacity. Dongfang Electric will supply 2 vertical electric power-frequency circulating water pumps with 100% capacity for this project. Once completed, it will play an important role in optimizing the regional energy structure and promoting green and low-carbon development.
On May 11, 2022, the product appraisal meeting and launch event for the high-pressure chemical shielding pumps manufactured by Dongfang Electric’s subsidiary Dongfang Electric Machinery, namely the circulation fluid pumps used in BDO plants, was successfully held. The meeting announced that the circulation liquid pump for BDO plants, developed independently by Dongfang Electric, possesses independent intellectual property rights, and its technical performance meets international advanced standards. This marks Dongfang Electric’s successful localization of such pumps for BDO plants, filling the gap in the use of domestic pumps in this industry and breaking the long-term monopoly held by foreign companies in this field. This appraisal meeting was jointly organized by the China General Machinery Industry Association and Dongfang Electric, and was held in Deyang, Sichuan/Beijing via on-site and video sessions. Huang Li, President of the China General Machinery Industry Association, and Sui Yongbin, Honorary President, co-chaired the meeting. 29 experts and scholars from 20 domestic chemical engineering firms, chemical enterprises, and renowned universities, including China Chengda Engineering Co., Ltd., Hualu Engineering, China Wuhuan Engineering, Donghua Technology, Sinopec, CNPC, Wanhua Chemical, Xinjiang Lanshan Tunhe Energy Co., Ltd., Xinjiang Meike Chemical, Sichuan Tianhua, Chongqing Chiyuan, and Huazhong University of Science and Technology, were invited to attend this conference. It is reported that the circulation liquid pump of the BDO unit operates at a pressure of 33.5 megapascals, with the temperature of the medium it transports being 125 degrees Celsius; it is a key piece of equipment in the BDO production line. BDO (1,4-butanediol) is an important raw material in the organic chemical and fine chemical industries. BDO and its derivatives are widely used in areas such as biodegradable plastics, spandex, and polyurethanes. In recent years, with the green and low-carbon transformation of China’s economy and society, the BDO industry has experienced explosive growth. The development of circulation pump technology for BDO plants is highly challenging, and it has long been monopolized by foreign companies; it represents a key equipment that hinders progress in China’s BDO chemical industry. Leveraging its more than 20 years of technical expertise in shielded pump technology, Dongfang Electric, in collaboration with China Chengda Engineering Co., Ltd. and Xinjiang Lanshan Tunhe Energy Co., Ltd., analyzed in depth the mechanisms behind common issues associated with imported equipment such as high motor temperature rise, easy damage to the stator shielding sleeves, bulging of the rotor shielding sleeves, and low unit efficiency. It also took into account the specific requirements of customers. By developing its own hydraulic models that ensure high efficiency for circulation pumps used in BDO plants, solid composite rotors, sliding bearings suitable for BDO media and equipped with tolerance functions, as well as devices for monitoring rotor axial displacement and bearing radial wear in high-pressure and corrosive environments, Dongfang Electric managed to develop a prototype of a circulation pump for BDO plants after 14 months of research and development. This prototype was successfully put into use on the BDO production line at Xinjiang Lanshan Tunhe Energy Co., Ltd. in April 2021. Since its commissioning, the unit has operated stably and reliably, with all technical parameters exceeding those specified in the technical agreement as well as those of similar units operating in parallel; in particular, its energy consumption is more than 10% lower than that of similar units. A production line operating for one year can save approximately 300,000 kWh of electricity, which is equivalent to reducing coal consumption by 120,000 tons, resulting in significant energy-saving and emission-reduction benefits. To date, the prototype has been operating continuously and stably for over 7,000 hours. Based on the prototype, Dongfang Electric has successfully developed multiple models within the same series; these models can meet the various capacity requirements of current BDO production lines. A standardized range of circulation pump products for BDO plants has been created, with the explosion-proof motors available in power ratings ranging from 80 to 250 kilowatts. At present, Dongfang Electric has mastered all the key core technologies related to the circulation liquid pumps for BDO plants, and is developing such pumps for larger-scale production lines.
