Our unit is used for hydroprocessing, and the feed pumps are all equipped with flushing oil lines. What is the specific function of this flushing oil? When stopping the pump, it is necessary to first replace the liquid inside the pump with flushing oil before draining it completely. The pump’s venting is done in a sealed manner; why can’t the liquid be drained directly, and why is it required to use flushing oil first?
Are you worried about corrosion? I’m not sure. Is it necessary to replace the fluid again when starting the pump after it has been stopped? What to do in an emergency?
The media used in hydroprocessing are quite heavy and have very high freezing points; it is difficult to remove them completely, which can lead to difficulties during maintenance or when starting up again. Therefore, it is necessary to use flushing oil to displace these substances first, ensuring that all operating media are removed. The flushing oil line is generally normal line oil drawn from the fractionator.
