I would like to ask: for a two-stage mechanical seal, what kind of lubricant should be used in the sealing tank? Are there any industry standards regarding the use of lubricants or isolation fluids for mechanical seals? I would like to ask everyone for advice
To blend well with the medium without contaminating the material, common choices include white oils of grades 5–15, ethylene glycol aqueous solutions, ethanol, glycerol, etc
It should be compatible with the medium in question, not contaminate the material, and possess certain thermal conductivity and lubricity
This requires considering two aspects: one is what your medium is, and whether it allows the isolation fluid to leak into it For example, if the medium is an aqueous solution, then the isolation fluid can be water ; On the other hand, it is necessary to consider what scheme to use for the flushing system; generally, scheme 54 can use demineralized water, while scheme 53 requires white oil
Generally, requirements are specified in random data; we use 10# white oil
Manufacturers generally recommend mineral oil, but for us as manufacturing enterprises, from the perspective of equipment management, mineral oil is not considered a lubricant and dealing with it is rather troublesome (we once borrowed it from a workshop that produces mineral oil, but they refused to lend it later on, citing high processing losses and other reasons). When we submitted an application to switch to a different lubricant, the relevant departments rejected it on the grounds that mineral oil does not fall under the category of lubricants. After consulting the manufacturer, we switched to TSA46 turbine oil, and it has worked fine for four or five years now.
