Segmental multi-stage pumps, BB4 pumps – I’ve seen that some of them use rolling bearings at both ends while others use sliding bearings. What are the differences between using these two types of bearings? What are the requirements regarding the operating conditions? Please share your insights, experienced users

It depends on the power of the pump. Sliding bearings have low operating noise; as long as proper lubrication is maintained, they can operate for 3 to 5 years or even longer. It's quite good if the service life of a rolling bearing can reach 2 years.

As the original poster said, the BB4 pumps here come with sliding bearings equipped with separate lubrication systems, but they aren’t used very often. The key and critical pumps, as well as the hydrogen feed pumps made in Japan, use this type of system. Most of them use rolling bearings.
As long as the axial forces in multi-stage pumps are properly balanced, rolling bearings remain quite durable.
