I need a pump for pumping a solid suspension. The medium is methanol, containing about 35% solid particles that are insoluble in methanol. The temperature is between 110–120°C, and the particle size of these solids is no more than 1 mm. I’m not sure what kind of pump would be suitable for industrial use; I bought a small gear pump for laboratory use, but it keeps getting stuck and the shaft sleeves wear out quickly, which is very troublesome. Do you have any good recommendations?
What about flow rate and head? Additionally, it’s not easy to choose a suitable operating condition, as the temperature and solid content are on the high side.
Gear pumps definitely won’t work; a slurry pump designed specifically for pumping slurries is the appropriate choice. The temperature is 110–120°C; it’s methanol, and it’s likely a material under pressure. What are the feed temperature, pressure, and flow rate? Could you tell me the testing process? If possible, it is recommended to avoid using pumps and instead opt for pressure feeding
It’s hard to say what pumps are used in industry, but for experiments, as long as the flow rate isn’t high, special piston pumps can handle the task. You can contact them within the site.
In industry, the flow rate requirement is quite high, around 20 m3/min; the head might be about 20 meters. In the laboratory, the flow rate can range from 100 L/h to 1000 L/h, or even higher, with a head of just a few meters being sufficient
It depends on your requirements regarding flow rate and head; but when it comes to the medium, an axial flow pump is a good choice
Using a screw pump would be better; and if there is wear, it might be related to the material
