Regarding the inlet and outlet of centrifugal pumps

Why is the inlet size of a typical centrifugal pump larger than its outlet size? For example, IH125-100-250.
I had never thought about this before; I guess it’s because imports are small while exports are large. The amount of liquid that enters is not enough to match what exits, which can easily lead to the pump running out of fluid.
Are the issues of head and cavitation at the inlet being considered?
The inlet size of a centrifugal pump is generally determined by the required flow rate, while the smaller outlet size is intended to reduce the pump’s volume and the diameter of the discharge pipeline.
