Recently, I’ve heard many cases where, after purchasing an additional pump, the pump breaks down as soon as the vehicle is started; even after replacing it with a new one, the same problem persists. I’m not sure what the cause is. Let me introduce to you the things that should be taken into consideration regarding booster pumps before testing them. 1. First, before starting up the booster pump, turn it manually two times to check for any noises inside the pump and to ensure there is no sticking. After turning it manually, reinstall the protective cover. 2. Fill the pump chamber with liquid to discharge air. 3. Start the pump according to its operating procedure; once it is running properly, it can be kept running for a continuous no-load test, with the test duration being no less than 2 hours. 4. The booster pump used in the test should operate smoothly, without any vibrations, and it should have an effective cooling and lubrication system. The temperature inside the bearing housing should be within the allowable range, and it is also necessary to check that there are no leaks in the mechanical seal. 5. The flow rate and head are within the range of the values specified on the nameplate, and the motor current does not exceed the rated value.
This way, there will be no problems during operation. Also, before testing the booster pump, it’s necessary to clean the area around it, removing any debris and keeping the floor clean. Check whether the valves can open and close smoothly, and whether the instruments are functional. Before starting the pump, inspect its seals, ensure that the cooling pump casing is unobstructed, and check the wiring of the motor as well as its rotation direction. Once everything seems fine, don’t forget to check the coaxiality of the couplings.
