Why do manufacturers prefer using Roots blowers? Because rotary vane blowers offer a good cost-performance ratio, have a longer lifespan, and are more versatile. Fans are common machinery in use today, and people’s production and daily life rely increasingly on them. Applications of Roots blowers: Roots blowers are used in a wide range of industries, primarily in the following fields: environmental protection and sewage treatment ; Pneumatic conveying of powdered granular materials (pneumatic transport of materials in industries such as chemicals, plastics, light textiles, feed, and building materials/cement) ; Transportation of grains such as millet and wheat ; Forced ventilation for sky-reaching (dust-convertion) furnace ; Aquaculture, oxygenation of fish ponds ; Plating tank air supply ; Vacuum conveying (in industries such as papermaking, textiles, food packaging, and tobacco) ; Transport of special gases (various types of natural gas, gas supplied by city gas stations, coke oven gas from coking plants, etc.).
Since the pressure increase at the outlet of a Roots blower is higher than that of a single-stage centrifugal air compressor, and its physical dimensions are much smaller than those of a centrifugal blower, Roots blowers do have their drawbacks: they have many wear-prone components, a high failure rate, and most importantly, the noise level generated by these devices is above the acceptable limit, making it difficult to keep the noise level below 85 dB.
Indeed, I have also noticed that for many of the fans used in our company’s environmental protection projects, rotary vane types are quite commonly employed. I’ll share my personal views on the main shortcomings: 1. The failure rate is somewhat high. 2. The noise level is a bit high. There was an incident that left a deep impression on me; when I was in technical discussions with several manufacturers, I questioned their claim that the vibration speed should be ≤ 11.2 mm/s (the standard requirement for normal pumps is only ≤ 4.5 mm/s). The manufacturers then cited JBT 8941-2014 as evidence, and since the standard specified such a value, I had no choice but to accept it: L:L:L
This standard is a bit low; in reality, the vibration speed of Sanniu fan products is within 4.5 mm/s.
