In the low-temperature methanol washing process, centrifugal pumps are equipped with siphon double-end face mechanical seals. I would like to ask those of you who have experience: how can one determine whether there is leakage in the first mechanical seal – is it sufficient to observe frosting on the siphon tank, or must there be significant frosting? Our pumps are from Dalian Deep Blue; they are of good quality. How to tell? If it weren’t for the cryopump, I could monitor the liquid level using a siphon tank; but with cryogenic systems, I simply can’t see the liquid level, and the methanol is also very turbid!

Our company specializes in the production of mechanical seals. If a pump uses an API682 P11+52 cooling system, and a leak occurs on the medium side of the mechanical seal, the sealing fluid will enter the seal tank, causing the liquid level in this tank to rise. If the observation window in the seal tank is made of traditional glass, and methanol is used due to its transparency, it becomes difficult to monitor the liquid level. Over time, the pressure in the seal tank increases, which can affect the mechanical seal on the atmosphere side. Based on our company’s improvements to similar issues, it is recommended to replace the sealed tank and switch the glass gauge to a magnetic flip-disc display.
