Why cannot steam be used for pressure testing after the mechanical seal of the radiation feed pump in the coking plant has been replaced?
Yes, steam pressure testing is used for the maintenance of coking hot oil pumps. Our leader means that steam condensation can result in water accumulation, causing the pump to run dry. I think it’s complete nonsense.
If there is water inside the pump and hot oil enters suddenly, it will cause the water to vaporize. The hot oil pump should use other cold oil to remove the water before introducing the hot oil, thereby cleaning it out; light paraffin oil is generally used for this purpose
During maintenance in the production process, steam pressure testing can be used, and then nitrogen can be used to purge any moisture from within the pump chamber.
Indeed, light oil is generally used for replacement before introducing the normal medium.
Blowing with nitrogen for displacement is also acceptable.
