We are currently using IHF centrifugal pumps to handle hydrochloric acid, with WB2 mechanical seals installed; when leaks occur, the gland and pump casing get corroded. How can this be resolved? The workshop wants to keep using these pumps for now and does not want to switch to magnetic drive pumps
It’s perfect for magnetic pumps. What caused the leakage – idle running and dry grinding?
Maintenance can keep up; another question is, why do the machine seals keep breaking?
External machine seals will experience slight leakage, and hydrochloric acid can cause corrosion
A chamber is placed outside the mechanical seal, through which coolant flows; this serves to lubricate the end faces as well as to dilute and recover any leaked fluid. Is this acceptable?
It is best to use a magnetic pump. The leader doesn’t like it
Fluorinated magnetic pumps have been damaged due to running dry on several occasions; an internal magnetic sleeve assembly costs half as much as the pump itself
Why run it empty? Centrifugal pumps can’t operate without liquid either
A double-sealed IHF version is available, but it requires cooling water – do you like that?
