Hello everyone. Submersible pumps are installed on the base of a pit or on the flange of a tank. For pump bodies made of carbon steel that are submerged in the medium, how should painting be handled? My current understanding is that for ordinary water-based media, painting is required, while for special hydrocarbon-based media, painting may not be necessary. Are there any colleagues in the group who work on submersible pumps or are involved in tank manufacturing? Could you share your valuable experience regarding submersible pumps and the painting of tank interiors? When it comes to painting, one usually has to consider whether epoxy resin paint or epoxy phenolic paint is a better choice. Some paint manufacturers refer to it as resin paint, while others call it phenolic paint.
Corrosion protection for carbon steel pump casing materials may be an issue. It would be better to solve the issue by choosing the material for the pump body. As for the anti-corrosion treatment of the inner wall of the tank, it also needs to be chosen based on the material and the contents stored within. Usually, anti-corrosion treatment is applied only at the time of manufacturing; it is not done during use, except for ordinary carbon steel water containers. In special cases, zinc metal was used in earlier years as a chemical treatment method for corrosion prevention. Due to the high cost, it was not used in later stages. The impact of coating peeling on the process also needs to be considered. It is recommended to consult the supplier in particular; it is safer to sign a warranty contract with them.
If this tank isn’t painted, does that mean it won’t be painted at all?
First, the original design must be accurately followed. From the initial design stage, its scope of application must be considered, and targeted measures should be taken. For example, in the absence of an effective coating to prevent corrosion, it is necessary to consider the material used or to adopt other anti-corrosion measures. There has to be a way in the end. It’s just that the methods available now are more numerous than those in earlier years.
