On December 24, 2022, as the \"3 million tons per year delayed coking unit\" of the Sino-Venezuelan joint venture Guangdong Petrochemical integration project completed its operational setup, ultra-high pressure water coking removal pumps were used to efficiently break up the coke in the coking tower, enabling the successful production of coke from the first tower. The facility began operational production in February 2023, marking the achievement of fully enclosed and environmentally friendly operation for the largest single-unit delayed coking unit in China. The 3 million tons per year delayed coking unit is the first facility in China National Petroleum Corporation to adopt the coking technology from the American company FW, and it is also the largest of its kind under construction in the country. This device is CNPC’s first fully enclosed coking removal system, featuring significant advantages such as an ultra-low circulation ratio, a simple and practical operation process, a high degree of automation, excellent safety and environmental performance, and high labor productivity. The purpose of the fully enclosed intelligent coking removal, transportation, and storage technology is to use modern methods to ensure that coke is handled in a relatively fully enclosed environment throughout its production, transportation, and storage processes, thereby preventing the release of large amounts of dust and volatile pollutants. In the past, coking units relied mainly on manual labor for coking removal, which was inefficient, prone to environmental pollution, and imposed a high workload on workers. With the new system, coking removal can now be carried out solely from the control room, addressing the issue of low efficiency in this process and simultaneously **improving the working conditions for front-line operators. The high-pressure coking water pump in the 3 million tons/year delayed coking unit has a head of 3600 m and a flow rate of 320 m3/h. Due to its high output pressure, significant variations in operating conditions (with alternating between four states: backflow, priming, drilling, and coking cutting), poor quality of the medium being transported (sewage containing coke dust tends to cause scaling inside the pump and is also corrosive), as well as the presence of numerous associated equipment components, this type of pump experiences a high frequency of failures; therefore, imported brands are usually chosen. The high-pressure coking water pump for Guangdong Petrochemical’s 3 million tons per year delayed coking unit is the first of its kind to use products manufactured by a domestic enterprise. Shenyang Industrial Pump Manufacturing Co., Ltd. stood out among numerous competitors thanks to its strong technical capabilities and professional manufacturing experience, securing the first order for domestic production.
The TDM320-360×10 high-pressure coking removal pump is a new product developed by the company for this facility; it is a multi-stage pump with a gearbox for increasing speed. This pump features a large number of stages (10 stages), a long shaft length (2.8 m), a high rotational speed (n=4200 r/min), a complex shafting system, and a motor with high power (5000 KW). Due to the larger size of the units and the higher performance requirements, the company’s technical department conducted analyses and calculations regarding the inherent characteristics of the shafting, the critical speed of the wet rotor, and the strength of the casing. By utilizing advanced design software and methods such as 3D design and computer-aided design and analysis, the accuracy of product design as well as its performance metrics were significantly improved, ensuring the reliability of the units’ operation. Through independent research and development, Shenyang Industrial Pump Manufacturing Co., Ltd. has successfully achieved the localization of ultra-high pressure coking water pumps for fully enclosed coking systems in China, which will lay a solid foundation for the company’s further development in this field.
