15 vertical pipeline pumps! WILO Czech successfully delivered the project for Volvo’s new energy vehicle factory in Slovakia. Publication date: 2025-07-11. “VOLVO” has always been a synonym for high-end automobiles; with the rapid development of new energy vehicles, the traditional automobile manufacturer Volvo has also quickly entered this field. In 2023, Volvo began construction of its third factory in Europe near Kosice in eastern Slovakia; this is also a superfactory dedicated to the production of new energy vehicles. The investment in the new factory amounts to 1.2 billion euros, with an annual production capacity of 250,000 electric vehicles planned. The factory is expected to achieve climate-neutral operations by making extensive use of green energy, and it will be equipped with 700 FANUC industrial robots to support automated production. It is understood that the project has also received a €267 million funding package approved by the European Union, and it will be completed and go into full production by 2026. The local Wilo team made tremendous efforts in helping Wilo win this project. Over a period of 15 months, they maintained close communication with clients and worked together with their partners; the successful acquisition of the project not only demonstrated the team’s ability to collaborate but also highlighted the important role played by the production department and the order management team. Ultimately, Wilo supplied 15 Wilo-Atmos GIGA-I 250 series vertical pipeline pumps to the Volvo Super Factory, where they were successfully assembled at the company’s headquarters in Dortmund, Germany, before being dispatched to the project site in Slovakia. To meet the requirements of this project for efficient business coordination and technological upgrades, Wilo, in collaboration with its key partner Takenaka Corporation, carried out a comprehensive renovation of the crane systems at its factory in Dortmund, Germany, to meet the demands placed on factory equipment for the production of large and extra-large pumps. This not only meets the current needs of Volvo’s super factory but also lays a solid foundation for supply flexibility in future projects involving larger GIGA-I products.
