Why is it necessary to turn the standby pump? The purpose of rotating the pump is to check whether it can be started urgently as a backup pump, in order to prevent pump failure incidents, especially with media of high viscosity and during winter. Another purpose of the barring gear is to prevent deflection of the pump shaft caused by its own weight.
How to turn the standby pump manually? The method of turning the pump is to rotate the pump shaft by (2n+1)×180°. Note: For self-priming pumps, the mode must be switched from “AUTO” to “MAN” before shaft rotation can be performed.
What are the general steps for switching between the operating pump and the standby pump? (1) Check whether the standby pump is ready for operation. (2) Start the backup pump and open the outlet valve at the same time. (3) After confirming that the standby pump is operating properly, close the outlet valve of the operating pump and shut down the operating pump. (4) If the pump needs maintenance, close the inlet valve, open the pump’s drain valve to empty it, and open the vent valve.
