Chinese cuisine is rich and diverse; as we all know, there are numerous delicious dishes in China. There are eight major Chinese cooking styles alone, and in addition to these, there are many traditional snacks as well. Moreover, the delicacies from different regions of China all have their own unique characteristics; after all, people live in different environments, so their eating habits naturally vary. Take people from Sichuan as an example; they are well-known for their tolerance of spicy food. This is actually because the climate in Sichuan is relatively humid and hot, so the local people consume chili peppers to get rid of excess moisture in their bodies, and over time this has led to the development of a habit of eating spicy food.

And when they encounter extremely spicy dishes in the South, they remain calm, which really makes people from the South shiver with fear. Speaking of this, Xiao You recalls the wise words spoken by Zhang Liangying in one of her shows: “The biggest scam in the world is when people from Sichuan say something isn’t spicy.” I’m sure many people can relate to this statement; if you have friends from Sichuan around you, you’ll often hear them say, “It’s really not spicy, go ahead and try it.” But once you taste it, you’re left wondering how anyone could think it’s not spicy – it’s so spicy that it’s unbearable.
