[Haichuan Project Updates] Guangdong Petrochemical’s 1.2 million tons/year ethylene plant has come online

On August 7, under the bright sunshine and accompanied by the sound of saluting artillery, the 1.2 million tons per year ethylene plant of the company’s Guangdong Petrochemical Integration Project Department, as well as the 3 million tons per year naphtha hydrogenation plant of the Five-Unit Project, were put into operation. Civil engineering work for the ethylene plant and the five-unit complex has been fully launched, marking a new phase in the project’s construction.
It is reported that the civil engineering works for the ethylene plant mainly consist of the foundations for the cracking furnaces in the plant and the substation of the ethylene plant. The foundations for the cracking furnaces include those for furnaces F1101 to F1801, a total of eight cracking furnaces; each furnace is composed of a foundation base and upper support columns. The current main construction area is F1101-1601; each foundation pad is 42.9 meters long, 18 meters wide, and 1.5 meters high. There are 6 types of concrete columns on the upper part of the cap, and all 6 types have the same height of 3.9 meters. The foundation is made of mass concrete, with an excavation depth of over 3 meters. The building area of the ethylene plant substation is nearly 3,000 square meters; it has two floors. The foundation is of the independent type, and dynamic compaction is used for soil stabilization, with a total of 51 foundations of 4 different types. The civil engineering works for the five combined units mainly include 3 reinforced concrete chimneys, with foundation diameters of 16 meters, 21 meters, and 21 meters respectively, and excavation depths of 4.3 meters, 4.1 meters, and 4.1 meters respectively.

The ethylene plant has a separate 10KV power distribution room. The civil engineering works for the ethylene plant include not only the foundations for the cracking furnace and the substation of the ethylene plant, but also the foundations for hundreds of pieces of equipment such as those in the compressor buildings and the quenching/cooling/heating areas. There are also numerous other civil engineering elements, including underground water supply and drainage systems, pipe galleries, and cooling towers.
