The past decade has been a period of rapid development for China’s chemical industry, marked by the emergence of many new processes, products, and equipment. There has also been significant progress in China’s chemical processing equipment, which has contributed to the swift advancement of the petrochemical sector. Here, we have compiled some of the achievements and breakthroughs made by Chinese equipment manufacturers in terms of larger-scale production and increased use of domestic equipment. We invite everyone to share their insights and engage in discussions, to cheer for Made in China and to support the development of chemical processing equipment! *********************************** In April 2021, the offshore platform heat exchanger heating skid project, undertaken by CSIC 711 Institute, passed the factory acceptance test as well as the type approval by China Classification Society. This project is another EPC project undertaken by 711 Heat Exchanger Business, following projects such as the energy efficiency testing bench of the China National Special Equipment Inspection and Testing Center and the crude oil heating skid for the Wenchang FPSO. The two sets of heat exchanger skids acquired this time will be used at the Luda 5-2 North Sea platform in the Bohai Sea oil field, and the core component is a fully welded plate heat exchanger made of titanium. Compared to traditional shell-and-tube heat exchangers, the new fully welded plate heat exchanger features high heat exchange efficiency, small size, light weight, and easy cleaning. Due to the limited space on offshore platforms and the finite bearing capacity of pile foundations, heat exchanger skids based on fully welded plates hold great potential for widespread application.

A fully welded plate heat exchanger has its plates sealed together by welding, which means that the plates cannot be removed or added. Its allowable pressure range is higher than that of detachable heat exchangers, but it does not exceed 5 MPa; the allowable pressure depends on the material used for the plates.
Lightweight heat exchange with a compact design makes it the preferred choice for offshore platforms. Skid-mounted technology also enhances the application of new types of heat exchangers, while coiled-tube heat exchangers represent another advancement in the petrochemical industry.
Skid-mounted modularization also originated in the offshore industry
On July 29, 2021, a delegation led by Director Cong Yan from Sinopec Shengli Petroleum Engineering Company visited Xi’an Aerospace Pump Co., Ltd. of Aerospace Power for an on-site inspection to verify the platform injection pump skid project. As one of China’s most important petroleum industry bases, the Shengli Oilfield plays a significant role in the development of the country’s national economy. Since establishing a strategic partnership in 2017, the two parties have collaborated on several key offshore platform projects at the Shengli Oilfield. The crude oil transfer pumps and high-pressure injection pumps developed by Xi’an Pump Industry Company for the Shengli Oil Field have operated smoothly and reliably since their deployment, earning high recognition. During this meeting, the two sides had in-depth discussions on the difficulties of offshore oil extraction and the technical requirements for key equipment. Director Cong Yan said, \"Oil extraction and transportation at offshore platforms take place in harsh natural conditions with demanding operating environments. The design and manufacturing of pump units are complex, and there are extremely high requirements regarding the operational stability of such equipment.\" Shengli Oilfield has always placed emphasis on product reliability, striving to minimize maintenance needs and achieve maintenance-free operation in order to extend the service life of equipment. ”The group went to the production workshop of Aerospace Pump Industry to conduct a visit, and inspected on-site the platform injection pump skid project that was about to be delivered. Through the review of relevant drawings and documents as well as verification through tests, the expert group unanimously agreed that the product passed the acceptance.
