Let’s take a look at the ten-year development of chemical processing equipment; let’s praise the prosperity and strength of modern China. Wishing everyone a happy New Year, and may their families be safe and healthy. I’m just sharing my thoughts to encourage more people to participate in the discussions. The forum becomes even better with your involvement – everyone is welcome to contribute more to the discussions here. ------------------------------------------------------------------ On January 8, 2020, a successful hot test was conducted using the pilot-scale furnace at the Wenxi branch of Shanxi Jinfeng Coal Chemical Co., Ltd. This project was jointly funded by Shanxi Jinmei Group and Xi’an Aerospace Yuan Dongli Engineering Co., Ltd. It was developed in response to the specific characteristics of the anthracite coal produced by Jinmei Group, aiming to overcome key technical challenges related to the pressurized gas treatment of such coal, including the issue of liquid slag discharge from coal with high ash fusion points and reduced methane generation. This project enables the clean and efficient utilization of anthracite coal with high ash fusion points and low reactivity. It represents an important transformation project within the coal energy sector, designed to find viable uses for this type of coal produced by Jinmei Group. It offers various advantages, including low investment costs, a short construction period, high production efficiency, and low operating and maintenance expenses. The construction and installation work for this project commenced on March 30, 2019. After 9 months of construction, a one-time successful hot test was carried out. As the country’s first gasification test base, once completed, this project will play a significant role in promoting the coal energy revolution, facilitating economic transformation and upgrading, and driving the development of chemical industry bases.
In 2020, after three industrial trials at Jinfeng Wenxi Company, the JM-H furnace achieved continuous and stable liquid slag discharge from smokeless lump coal; the slag discharge process technology was mastered, basic process parameters and consumption values were obtained, and it passed the safety and reliability assessment for the first unit of the JM-H furnace conducted by the Emergency Management Department of Shanxi Province.

In September 2020, the Jinhang Furnace (a technology for pressurized slag gasification using lump coal) successfully passed the first domestic safety and reliability analysis review meeting for chemical processes, organized by the Shanxi Provincial Emergency Management Department.
On September 16, 2019, the gasifier of Jinhang’s pilot plant was successfully lifted into place, marking a milestone achievement for this project and triggering a wave of comprehensive installation work focusing on equipment, pipelines, and electrical systems. The gasifier to be lifted this time is 10 meters tall, weighs 75 tons, and has an installation height of 47 meters.
The design pressure of this device is 2.5 MPag, and its designed coal feeding rate can reach 10 t/h. As the largest and most technologically advanced pilot plant of its kind in China at present, it has also set a record for similar projects in the country, with construction starting and the gasification furnace installed in just 170 days. The Jinhang furnace project is based on the company’s independently developed technology for pressurized slag gasification using lump coal. It utilizes lump coal with a high ash fusion point as the feedstock for gasification, and features long residence time, high conversion efficiency, low energy consumption, and minimal pollution. It is primarily used for upgrading medium and small-scale UGI gas generation furnaces, enabling a 27% reduction in the cost per ton of ammonia produced. The disposal of slag and its vitrification effectively solve the problems associated with handling ash and slag waste. This is an efficient and environmentally friendly gasification furnace that can address the challenges related to the utilization of lump coal from the Jincheng Coal Group as well as the environmental issues associated with the UGI gas generation process. In the future, it can also be applied in areas such as coal gangue, hazardous waste, and blue carbon, offering good market prospects.
In February 2018, Jinmei Group and the Aerospace Propulsion Technology Research Institute (the 6th Academy of Aerospace) signed a strategic cooperation agreement in Xi’an. Both sides will make full use of their respective strengths, taking the collaborative research and development of the \"Jinhang Furnace\" as a starting point. Through two-way interaction between military applications being adapted for civilian use and civilian technologies being applied in military fields, they will work together to promote scientific and technological progress as well as the rapid development and transformation of their industries.
