The third 89,000-cubic-meter low-temperature butane storage tank was lifted using air jacking in the Jiangsu Haizhou Bay project. Recently, the Jiangsu Haizhou Bay liquefied hydrocarbon storage area project, which is under the general contracting of Sinochem Fifth Ring Company, achieved a significant milestone: the air jacking operation for the third 89,000-cubic-meter low-temperature butane storage tank was completed successfully. According to on-site inspections, the alignment accuracy of the dome was kept within ±3 millimeters, achieving the three objectives of zero deviations during construction, zero accidents in safety operations, and zero defects in project quality. At present, the construction of this project has entered a critical phase; over 600 workers at the construction site are working systematically to carry out key tasks such as welding the interior components of the storage tanks and prefabricating pipelines. It is reported that the planned construction elements for this key project in the Lianyungang Ganyu Marine Economic Development Zone include 2 double-metal fully enclosed low-temperature propane storage tanks with a capacity of 89,000 cubic meters each, as well as 1 butane storage tank; in addition, 6 spherical tanks with a capacity of 3,000 cubic meters each and various process equipment will be built as part of this project. It is reported that the project utilizes the bimetallic fully enclosed cryogenic storage tank construction technology system independently developed by Wuhuan Company. This technology has been validated through multiple projects, and it features a high degree of domestic production for its components, low design redundancy, and significant savings in operational energy consumption. Once fully completed, the project will, through an intelligent warehousing management system and supporting port and shipping facilities, achieve a liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) distribution capacity of over 2 million tons per year. This breakthrough at this critical stage marks another improvement in China’s construction accuracy in the field of large-scale low-temperature storage tanks. It not only lays a solid foundation for the mechanical completion of the project by the end of 2025, but also helps to ensure the security of the clean energy supply chain in the Yangtze River Delta region, contributing to the creation of a **-level demonstration base for the green chemical industry.

Air jacking, commonly known as “air lifting,” utilizes the principle of pressure difference between the inside and outside of a confined space to lift a giant steel dome to the desired position using the buoyancy of upward-moving air currents. “Three 110-kilowatt pneumatic lifting systems operated at full capacity to rapidly inject a massive flow of air amounting to over 138,000 cubic meters into the tank in order to create pressure; the initial force of this airflow was equivalent to that of typhoons of levels 12 to 15. As a result, the steel dome with a diameter of 60 meters and a weight of 682 tons was raised to its designed height of 47.613 meters, fitting precisely with the pressure-bearing ring on the top of the tank, with the horizontal deviation kept strictly within 10 millimeters. ”said Zhang Xiao, the project’s chief commander. Zhang Xiao said that compared to traditional mechanical lifting methods, \"air jacking\" is a newer lifting technique that is more efficient and safer, but it also requires very high standards in terms of construction techniques. To ensure that the giant steel dome does not tilt or topple during the \"air jacking\" process, construction workers installed 24 sets of balance guidance systems composed of steel cables and pulley blocks evenly along the circumference of the tank’s top, allowing the steel dome to rise steadily along the designed path. At the same time, the project team monitors the pneumatic lifting power system, as well as the balancing and sealing systems, in real time to ensure that everything remains under control throughout the process.
