World’s first integrated project for producing hydrogen/ammonia/fertilizers using geothermal energy underway. Recently, the preliminary design work for the calcium ammonium nitrate project as part of Shanshan Group’s green fertilizer project in Kenya, undertaken by China National Chemical Engineering Corporation Tianchen, officially began. This project is also the world’s first integrated facility for generating hydrogen/ammonia/fertilizers through geothermal power. As the first green chemical project carried out in partnership with Kai Shan Group, Tianchen Company aims to create the world’s first integrated demonstration project for \"hydrogen production – ammonia production – fertilizer production\" powered by geothermal energy. This represents not only an important achievement in deepening cooperation between China and Kenya in the fields of new energy and chemicals, but also another innovative effort by Chinese chemical engineering to promote the transition toward clean energy-based chemical production and to support sustainable development in Africa. The project will make use of the region’s abundant geothermal energy resources. By producing green hydrogen through water electrolysis, capturing carbon dioxide at geothermal wells, and producing nitrogen using air separation units, it will manufacture green fertilizer products such as green ammonia, urea, and calcium ammonium nitrate. This will help Kenya achieve self-sufficiency in fertilizer production, enhance agricultural productivity, create local jobs, and stimulate the development of related industries, thereby injecting new momentum into the local economy’s diversification and green industrialization. Next, Tianchen Company will take this project as an opportunity to fully leverage its strengths in the integration of green energy chemicals, the development of green hydrogen models, as well as engineering design and technology integration. It will actively contribute to the development of clean energy and the establishment of high-value-added industries in Africa, providing an innovative model for deepening cooperation under the Belt and Road Initiative in East Africa.
