What should a logical interlock control scheme in the special section on automation in chemical process design look like? Now, for some process flows that involve sequential control and interlocking, apart from drawing a few pneumatic valves on the flow diagram, the design institutes are too lazy to produce any further design documents; they tend to avoid dealing with this aspect, which results in inadequate configuration later on, prone to errors, and even makes programming impossible. Should a special section on self-control really include this part? Are there any relevant specifications? What do design documents look like? Is it a logic flowchart? Tables? Text description again?

Regarding sequential control, the process engineering team needs to specify the requirements, after which a sequential control timing diagram is created. Based on this timing diagram, a sequential control table is designed (or the timing diagram and the control table are combined into a single step). Note that some DCS sequence control functions use sequence control tables; it is said that sequence control can be configured based on these tables. Some manufacturers’ products, on the other hand, utilize sequence function charts (SFC: Sequence Function Chart). Regarding interlocks, the process engineering team needs to specify the interlock conditions, after which an interlock logic diagram is created; the interlocks are then designed based on this logic diagram. For all the above issues, it is necessary to select the signaling device and actuator based on the specific circumstances.
