The thermal gas mass flow meter is a new type of gas flow measurement device that has evolved from earlier hot-wire anemometers, and it is widely used in industries such as aviation, aerospace, energy, medicine, the automotive industry, and natural gas pipeline transportation. At present, research and application of thermal gas mass flow meters in China are still in their initial stages; the vast majority of such products have to be imported, especially those used for measuring gas flow in large and medium-sized pipelines. Therefore, researching thermal gas mass flow meters will be of great significance to the development of China’s national economy. Building on the previously developed single-point thermal gas mass flow meter, this paper proposes a thermal gas mass flow measurement method based on multi-point measurement to address the issues existing in current gas mass flow measurement for large-diameter or irregular pipes, such as low accuracy in single-point measurement, excessive pressure loss in differential pressure instruments, and difficulties in using the velocity-area method. 1 Measurement principle and temperature characteristics of sensitive elements: Thermal mass flow meters are divided into hot-wire type and thermal-film type, depending on the type of heating element used. As a new type of temperature-sensing element, platinum film resistors feature small size, fast response, and ease of integration with integrated circuits. They also offer advantages such as a wide temperature measurement range, high accuracy, good linearity, and stable performance. It has wide applications in areas such as temperature compensation, as well as the measurement and control of temperature and flow rate
