There are proven operational experiences with pulverized coal gasification using systems such as Shell, GSP, Space Furnace, Dongfang Furnace, two-stage furnaces, Collin Furnace, and Five-Ring Furnace, etc. The key factor is the quality of the coal, and it is important to maintain stability in the flow rate of pulverized coal during operation. . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
Overall, Shell has invested too much, spent too much time in exploration, and the situation is difficult to control. There are currently quite a number of such furnaces in China; their operational scale is large, and less expertise is required for their use. However, the reaction intensity per burner is not as high as that of Corin’s furnaces, and their theoretical carbon conversion rate is lower than Corin’s. It is said that these furnaces have undergone technical upgrades (the specifics are unclear). I have no experience with GSP furnaces; they are similar to the aerospace-type furnaces, without downcomers (to be precise, the downcomers are located outside the furnace).
