If a company can’t even afford this amount of money for work, what’s the point or future in working there? It’s better to leave. There is a way to save money: go to the local Quality and Technical Supervision Bureau and check out their reference rooms; usually, no fee is charged. China’s standard versions are quite cheap, but for the AS*TM standard, both paper and electronic versions come at a cost – and a high one at that.

If you want an electronic version, it’s available everywhere on the Internet; just the update speed might be slower, and it can be hard to find the latest versions. There’s a website called “Standard Sharing Network” (www.bzfxw.com) that has quite a lot of content available there
This one. . . In China, where piracy is widespread, electronic versions can be downloaded for free from all standard websites. When I worked in a state-owned enterprise, the company would purchase printed versions of the standards; after switching to a private company, I had to rely on electronic versions available online for all such standards
