Currently, isobutane dehydrogenation and n-butylene isomerization are widespread, especially in Shandong; it is estimated that the isobutylene produced by these two processes accounts for over 70% of the total isobutylene produced in the country. If a consumption tax is imposed on MTBE, all these projects will fail completely. There still needs to be downstream processing with technical content.
I don’t understand. If a consumption tax is imposed, it’s applied to everyone, causing costs to rise for all. As long as the price of MTBE is lower than that of the base oil, consumption should not decrease, right?
Currently, almost no tax is imposed on MTBE in Shandong region; if a tax were imposed, the price per ton would drop by 2,000 yuan compared to the current level, and then MTBE would no longer be profitable.
Still going up! What’s happening to the decision-makers in these companies? Propane dehydrogenation and isobutane dehydrogenation have both been introduced. The prices of propane and isobutane have been rising continuously. What profit is left?
