Sophora flower, being one of the most well-known traditional Chinese medicines in Guangdong, is also one of the famous types of five-flower tea. In traditional Chinese medicine, it is believed to have the effects of cooling the blood and stopping bleeding, as well as clearing heat from the liver. It is often used to treat conditions such as red eyes caused by wind-heat, rectal bleeding, and sores and infections. Due to its sweet and fragrant taste, it is also considered a substance that can be used both as medicine and food. Using it together with Imperata cylindrica, which has the effect of clearing heat and reducing fire, to cook crucian carp results in a dish that helps clear heat from the blood and reduce fire as well as detoxify the body. It is particularly suitable as an adjunctive treatment for hemorrhoids that tend to become inflamed these days, and can also be considered a home-made soup for reducing heat in the summer. Ingredients: 15–20 grams of sophora flowers, 50–100 grams of fresh Imperata cylindrica rhizomes, 1 crucian carp, 50 grams of lean meat, 3 slices of ginger. Cooking: Soak the sophora flowers briefly; wash the Imperata cylindrica roots; clean the crucian carp, fry it until it turns slightly yellow, then add a little hot water. Put it together with lean meat and ginger in a pot, add 2000 milliliters of water (about 8 bowls), bring to a boil over high heat, then reduce the heat and simmer for about 1 hour; season with salt before serving. Serves 3–4 people.
