I would like to ask here about the definitions and differences between slurry pipelines and powder pipelines. I remember working on a polypropylene project before, where the pipelines carried gas, liquid, and solid media; everyone referred to them as powder pipelines ; Working on coal tar projects these days also involves gas, liquid, and solid phases; people refer to them as slurry pipelines. I searched on Baidu, but couldn’t find definitions for powder pipelines and slurry pipelines. Could everyone please help point out whether these two words can be used interchangeably? Strictly speaking, what is the definition?
There seems to be no official definition for this; it’s just a descriptive definition given by us, the operators on site!
Are the powder and slurry pipelines the same? Recently, I’ve been thinking about summarizing the piping requirements for slurry pipelines; if there’s no difference, then I can combine the information from the two projects into one document. I’m afraid the slurry and powder might be different, which would cause problems during the defense.
I think it should be determined based on the original state of the medium – powdery materials remain in a powdered form, while pastes are like rice paste; it’s just a figurative way of describing them
There is no strict definition, but by convention, pipelines carrying a gas-solid mixture or only a solid phase are called powder pipelines, while those carrying a liquid-solid mixture or a gas-liquid-solid mixture are called slurry pipelines. The key factor is the presence of liquid, that is, the difference between dry and wet conditions.
Well, thank you~ I just checked, and there are no specific standards or guidelines for the piping layout of solids-containing pipelines; it’s only briefly mentioned in other standards. Do you have any references, sir?
We also follow the general guidelines: try to consider the slope when determining the pipeline layout, keep the pipeline length as short as possible to avoid local dead zones, and place valves as close as possible to the pipeline branches... I can’t think of anything else; this is for reference only~~
