Corrosion issues in tower equipment

Has anyone encountered corrosion in tower equipment? Could you share your experience? It would be best if there were pictures.
Chemical plants must have encountered this issue: there is deposition, erosion, electrochemical effects; last year, during maintenance, pitting corrosion appeared in many areas of the distillation column, and anti-corrosion measures had to be taken again. The photos were lost when the computer broke down
What material is the tower made of, and how is it protected from corrosion? What causes pitting? Has an RCA been done? Thank you!
