Besides welding, have you seen any other methods of joining? For example, a mechanical connection method called zap-lok.
Long-distance pipelines are all welded. The mechanical connections you mentioned are used for the pipelines within oil fields, and that type of connection allows for faster installation
Fast speed, high cost, and low safety factor. But it works well in emergencies.
Both long-distance pipelines and buried pipelines are installed in one go, with strict quality inspection, and no quick-disassembly is required.
