In ASPEN, one of the parameters in the equipment’s results is HEAT DUTY; this value should be the difference between the enthalpy of the output stream and that of the input stream. The software can then calculate the amount of heating and cooling medium required. I would like to ask: if there is an exothermic reaction inside the equipment, how can the energy associated with this reaction be deducted from the enthalpy calculations? In other words, how can the amount of heat transfer medium needed be determined based on the heat exchanged between the outside environment and the equipment?

The reaction heat can be calculated using ASPEN; the question is whether the software can automatically exclude this amount of heat when calculating the energy requirements for utility use, rather than requiring manual calculation to determine it

However, when I used the software to calculate the consumption of utility resources, it calculated based solely on the difference between the exit enthalpy and the inlet enthalpy, without accounting for the heat of reaction. May I ask, if I want the software to remove this heat on its own, where should I make the settings? Thank you!
This duty already has the reaction heat excluded from it.
Duty should refer to the heat of reaction, and then, based on the inflow and outflow, the heat that is transferred in or out is calculated through material balance – that’s how I understand it, and I think it’s correct
