I would like to ask experts: for atmospheric-pressure carbon steel storage tanks used to store ethanol and 98% concentrated sulfuric acid, is the appropriate material Q235 or 20G? The material supplied by the manufacturer is Q235, but after checking online about its use in structural supports and similar applications, I found no mention of it being suitable for use in manufacturing carbon steel storage tanks. Question: Can Q235 meet the usage requirements?

Q235 material has a wide range of applications; in the case of storage tanks, it refers to the sheet material used to manufacture pressure vessels. 20g seems to be an older grade; nowadays Q245R is used in its place, and of course we are referring to sheets here as well. The choice of material for a given medium depends on the compatibility between the medium and the material, that is, whether the material can resist corrosion by that medium. It is recommended to consult the material corrosion manual, which provides information on the corrosion of materials by various media, so that materials can be selected accordingly. Of course, there are also cases where materials are chosen based on usage experience; books are not absolute.
20G is a grade of steel used for boiler tubes; I think what the original poster meant was 20G. 20G is an older type of steel material used for boilers, and it has been removed from the new standards – Q245R has taken its place along with 20R

The sulfuric acid tanks used in our company are made of 20# carbon steel. The ethanol tanks were originally also made of carbon steel, but since the ethanol purchased was acidic, they were later replaced with 304 steel
