1. Are there breathing holes designed on the ammonia tank?
This should not be allowed! There shouldn’t be! It’s too dangerous! Store under pressure!

Are you referring to the safety valve? How could a breathing valve withstand such high pressure?

Breather valves are installed on atmospheric pressure storage tanks, as well as on methanol tanks. Liquid ammonia tanks are mostly pressure vessels; those for storage at normal pressure and low temperature are also possible.
Our facility has 2 ammonia storage tanks with a capacity of 2,500 tons each; the design pressure is 7.8 Kg. The safety devices include safety valves, but no vent valves.
Atmospheric pressure tanks must be equipped with a vent valve that serves a similar function to a safety valve, but in reverse: one is used to prevent overpressure, while the other is used to prevent underpressure.
Pressurized storage tanks use safety valves, so negative pressure does not occur, whereas atmospheric-pressure storage tanks are often large-scale tanks in which negative pressure can arise; therefore, breather valves are required to prevent the tanks from collapsing under negative pressure.
