Hold-Up: The cross-sectional area locally occupied by one of the phases of a multiphase flow, relative to the cross-sectional area of the conduit at the same local position, expressed as a percentage. My translation is: The cross-sectional area occupied by one of the phases in a multiphase flow, divided by the cross-sectional area of the pipe at the same location, expressed as a percent. Due to my limited English skills, I appreciate any criticism and suggestions from everyone. My question is: how should “Hold Up” be translated? Thank you.
I think the translation is good; it captures the meaning pretty well.
I can’t understand it. Is it used on a flow meter?

The same value is expressed as a percentage, representing the ratio of the cross-sectional area occupied by one phase in the multiphase flow to the cross-sectional area of the pipe.
