There are many products that can be produced from the syngas obtained through the pressurized gasification of water-coal slurry; it mainly depends on the current process technologies and product markets. The methanol process is the most mature, but the current methanol market is poor with an oversupply; using methanol to produce olefins might yield better results, though the investment costs and profits have not been calculated yet. As a raw material for ammonia synthesis, its production process is well-established, but it requires significant investment; it is not something that small-scale enterprises can afford to undertake ; Dimethyl ether can be directly synthesized using syngas, but this is only possible if there is a market for the dimethyl ether or a project for its reuse ; Syngas can be used to produce methanol, polyoxymethylene, and other products, as well as additives for petroleum products. Syngas can be used to directly produce ethylene glycol; this process is fairly mature, with industrial pilot tests already completed. It was developed by East China University of Science and Technology, and it features good energy consumption and product yield, so industrial scale-up of this process deserves special attention.

Another use for methanol is in methanol-based gasoline, such as M5, M15, M35, M50, M80, M100; There are many grades, named according to the different levels of methanol incorporation. For methanol gasoline of grades M15 and below, car engines can be used as is without any modifications; during the blending process, M5 can be blended directly without the need for solvents. I’m not sure if everyone is optimistic about the future market for methanol gasoline, or what the prospects for this fuel will be in the future. This also needs to be closely related to the market. Simply producing methanol won’t be profitable at all unless it is done in areas with available resources – near coal deposits. Currently, the markets for methanol-based olefins, polyurethanes, butyl octanol, etc., are still good. What about from now on? It is also closely related to oil prices and market saturation.
