In our facility, the high-temperature thermocouples in the gasification furnace usually fail after about 20 days of operation, with all 4 thermometers becoming defective. In practical terms, how can we extend the lifespan of these high-temperature thermocouples?
For high-temperature thermocouples, it is advisable to use one that is placed behind refractory bricks; the refractory bricks should not have any holes, and the tip of the thermocouple should be in contact with the refractory bricks. At the beginning of feeding, a trend comparison chart is created based on the readings from other thermocouples and the temperature of this thermocouple. Since the thermocouple is located behind the refractory bricks and does not come into contact with the flame, its lifespan is very long; after other thermocouples are damaged, the operating temperature of the gasification furnace can be determined by referring to the trend chart ; It is also possible to determine the furnace temperature during heating ; In the next operating cycle, the temperature will change due to the wear of the refractory bricks, so it is necessary to create a new temperature trend chart
How high is the temperature? Thermocouples with high-temperature resistant ceramic jackets can be used........

When installing high-temperature thermocouples, they should be recessed 20–30 mm into the refractory bricks, and the entire surface of the thermocouple should be tightly covered with graphite sheets to prevent any gaps from forming in the installation area.
Using a 310S, or 2520 heat-resistant steel sleeve, temperatures of 1350 degrees can be achieved, with continuous use possible for 3 months.

Is it an issue with unstable operating processes or problems with the quality of the thermocouple products? You can try using products from other manufacturers of the same type to compare the effects.
The assembly position, such as the retraction amount mentioned above, also affects the lifespan
