In chemical production, how do we define tower equipment?
A structure with internal heat or mass exchange is called a tower; otherwise, it can only be called a container.
Equipment for the transfer of substances between gas and liquid phases, or between liquid phases. Based on structure, they are divided into two main categories: plate towers and packed towers. A plate column is equipped with a certain number of plates, and the gas comes into contact with the liquid layer on these plates in the form of bubbling or spraying to facilitate mass transfer. The packing tower is filled with packing to a certain height; the liquid flows downward along the packing, while the gas flows upward and comes into counter-current contact with the liquid film to facilitate mass transfer. It is commonly used in operations such as distillation, water absorption, and extraction. In some places, the dryer is also referred to as a drying tower

For example, the equipment used for dry desulfurization is essentially an adsorption unit, but due to its appearance, it is often referred to as a “desulfurization tower”.
