Those years, those people, that song

It was the time of blossoming youth; that boy as swift as the wind; that well-known song; the always bulky and ugly school uniforms; a bicycle speeding along; heavy backpacks; boys whistling at girls——those are memories from middle school. I still remember that whenever the bell rang marking the end of class, I would rush home on my bike, only to be stopped by the homeroom teacher as I approached the school gate. Once, I said in my dialect, “Teacher, my stomach hurts,” when I really did have stomach pain, which made everyone in the class laugh. My deskmate had an injured foot, and it was really tiring to carry her home every time. How silly I was back then; now I realize how wonderful those moments were. How could I feel tired? I remember having a secret crush on her, who was the class president and also my deskmate. Later, our teacher separated us forcefully. For the middle school exams, I used the pen she gave me, but I performed terribly and got scolded by my family. At that time, the song “Autumn Won’t Return” was playing everywhere.
