The main factor causing corrosion in water bodies is the presence of dissolved oxygen in the water; it has little direct relation to calcium. If calcium levels are low, corrosion is severe; boiler water must not have hardness – otherwise wouldn’t the boiler have already been damaged? There’s no such thing; boiler water, especially that used in steam boilers, needs to have its hardness removed and it needs to be deoxygenated. Low calcium levels have no corrosive effect on the circulating water itself.

A low calcium ion concentration means that the water you’re using for replenishment isn’t fresh water; it might be desalinated water. I don’t think there’s any problem with that. I believe that in a circulating water system, the pH level shouldn’t be acidic, so a low calcium level is actually a good thing. We use circulating water for desulfurization processes – this allows for a longer circulation cycle, and it’s also beneficial for the towers! ! :victory::victory:
