What are the differences between four-pass heat exchangers with a T-shaped layout and those with a grid-shaped layout? It’s that the gasket on the side of the tube box is in a T-shaped or grid-shaped design
The eye-shaped design should offer better heat exchange efficiency, while the dingzi-shaped design has a simpler structure.
It is recommended to prefer a grid-shaped structure, in which all partitions are welded to the tube box heads, providing better strength； Furthermore, the small temperature difference on both sides of each partition is beneficial for the partition.
For the 4-pipebank division, there are three types: parallel, I-shaped, and cross-shaped. Generally, for the sake of easy takeover, the parallel division method is more suitable; moreover, it also allows all residual liquid in the tube box to be drained. The advantage of the I-shaped arrangement is that it results in shorter sealing lines compared to the parallel arrangement, and allows for more heat exchange tubes to be arranged. The cross-shaped arrangement is more suitable for U-tube heat exchangers with 4 tube passes; however, there is a larger temperature difference between adjacent tube passes, the connecting tubes are not radial in nature, and additional vents for draining liquid are required
