The two regulators are connected in series to control the control valve, thereby achieving constant temperature control.

Since the reactor temperature has a certain degree of lag while the reactor pressure responds more quickly, and since reactor temperature is an important parameter that needs to be controlled, cascade control can be employed to achieve better temperature control – with reactor pressure serving as the secondary variable and reactor temperature as the primary variable; the flow rate of the heat transfer medium in the reactor can then be adjusted accordingly
